The Pandemic Event visa (subclass 408) will be closed to new applications from 2nd September.
From 2 September 2023, new applications will receive a six month visa.The 408 visa will only be open to applications from existing holders.
A Visa Application Charge of A$405 will also be introduced.
By February 2024 it will be closed to all applicants.
The visa was created during the pandemic for international students stuck in Australia.
It was created to fill labour shortages and help international students who couldn’t leave Australia to support themselves.
