Skills in Demand Visa Streams

The Skills in Demand Visa has 3 streams. Each stream is valid for 4 years. And each stream has a pathway to permanent residency.

Three-Stream System: Each stream targets specific skill levels and salary thresholds:

Specialist Skills Stream: This stream is designed to attract highly skilled workers earning a minimum salary of $135,000 in any occupation except trades workers, machinery operators, drivers and labourers.

This visa stream is expected to have a fast 7-day processing time.

Core Skills Stream: This stream covers most other skilled workers, with roles on an updated Core Skills Occupation List. Workers must earn at least the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT), set to be $73,150 from July 2024.

Essential Skills Stream: This stream targets lower-paid roles essential to Australia’s economy but salaries falling under minimum salary threshold. This stream will focus on filling workforce gaps in critical services with a lower annual salary threshold. This pathway is undergoing further review to ensure safeguards against exploitation.
