Coronavirus and Working Holiday Visas: 6 Month Limitation Lifted

Saturday 4 April 2020

Some working holiday makers on 417 visas can work for more than 6 months with one employer, the acting immigration minister announced yesterday.

Working holiday visa holders who are working in critical industries will be exempt from the 6 month limitation.

As well as announcing exemptions to the 6 month limitation for 417 visa holders working in critical industries like aged care, agriculture and child care, backpackers will also be able to apply for a further visa. This will allow them to stay on working in those sectors beyond the next 6 months if their current visa expires.

The news offers some clarity for employers in these sectors, especially those in regional Australia who rely on the backpacker work force.
