The scheme is designed to make it easier for skilled workers from both within Australia and overseas, to stay and work in Western Australia.
To be eligible for the Construction Visa Subsidy Program, employers must sponsor a skilled migrant in one of the following skilled visa sub-classes

- the Temporary Skill Shortage Subclass 482 visa
- the subclass 494 visa or
- the subclass186 visa

How to apply for the Construction Visa Subsidy Program
Are you a construction employer based in Western Australia looking to expand your team with skilled workers? The Construction Visa Subsidy Program (CVSP) is design to help you address skills shortages.
This program offers subsidies to employers who sponsor skilled migrants in kcrucial roles in the construction and building industry.
So how you can participate in the Construction Visa Subsidy Program?
Step 1: Making Your Claim
Qualifying employers can make multiple claims based on the number of skilled workers you are seeking to sponsor.
Single Skilled Migrant Claim
If you’re sponsoring one skilled migrant, here’s what you need to do:
- Fill out the CVSP Employer Sponsored Stream – Milestone 1 – Claim Form.
- Agree to follow the Construction Visa Subsidy Program Terms and Conditions.
- Declare your intention to sponsor a skilled migrant with the Department of Home Affairs.
- Submit your completed claim form.
Multiple Skilled Migrants Claim
Sponsoring two to five skilled migrants? Follow these extra steps:
- Complete the CVSP Employer Sponsored Stream – Milestone 1 – Claim Form.
- Agree to the program’s terms and conditions.
- Declare your intent to sponsor skilled migrants and provide a brief outline of planned work.
- Submit your completed claim form.
Six or More Skilled Migrants Claim
For sponsoring six or more skilled migrants, there are more requirements:
- Complete the CVSP Employer Sponsored Stream – Milestone 1 – Claim Form.
- Agree to the program’s terms and conditions.
- Provide confirmation of registration as a sponsor with the Department of Home Affairs.
- Develop a business plan showing the need for more skilled workers.
- Describe your plans for supporting skilled migrants.
- Submit your completed claim form.
Finding Skilled Migrants
If you haven’t found skilled migrants yet, don’t worry. You can register your details with the Skilled Migrant Employment Register (SMER). It helps connect employers with skilled migrants seeking work in Western Australia.
Visa Process
Once you’ve found a skilled migrant to sponsor, follow these steps:
- Apply to become a sponsor with the Department of Home Affairs.
- Work with your registered migration agent to identify the right visa.
- Your registered migration agent will help you lodge the visa through the Department of Home Affairs ImmiAccount service.
Claiming Subsidies
After your skilled migrant’s visa is granted and they start working, you can claim subsidies:
- Fill out the CVSP Employer Sponsored Stream – Milestone 2 – Claim Form for the second payment.
- Complete the CVSP Employer Sponsored Stream – Milestone 3 – Claim Form when your skilled migrant gets their first payslip for the final payment.
